The roads
You alway hear about how awful it is to drive in France, mainly because of the French, but I've always found it to be a far more relaxed experience than driving in the UK.
(Apart from the time Smegger took me into Paris, and despite me wanting to park on the outskirts and catch the Metro in, somehow ended up whirling round the Place de la Concord, but that's another story)
I just loooove those long straight roads, mile after mile, lined with hundreds of trees (although they seem to be under threat - see here)
Now this is going to sound a bit weird, but I also like these:

If you can't make it out, that's a black human silhouette with blood pouring from its head. (Nice)
Whereas in the UK we have a crass sign that just states '7 killed on this road last year', in France you get one of these wherever someone died on the road. It certainly makes you pay attention to your driving.
Morbid yes, but devastatingly effective.
Anyway, on a lighter note, my Mum is planning to retire over there, so hopefully I'll get to see a lot more of France in a few years time... Of course, if she doesn't make sure she has a spare room or two, there's going to be some SERIOUS trouble!
